SABIC-Europe BV is a SABIC subsidiary that includes all SABIC Polyolefins activities in Europe and employs around 3,200 people. Headquartered in Sittard, the Netherlands, SABIC-Europe has a European wide network of sales offices and logistic hubs, as well as three petrochemical production sites in Europe: at Geleen (the Netherlands), at Teesside (United Kingdom), and at Gelsenkirchen (Germany). In 2007, SABIC-Europe produced 8.7 million metric tons of petrochemicals and sold 10.9 million metric tons, mainly to the European market.SABIC, headquartered in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia), is one of the world's top 10 petrochemical companies and is the largest non-oil company in the Middle East.It also delivers technical and technological services to improve the use and maintenance of production assets. Through the department, SABIC-Europe secures the availability of scarce, specialized skills and know-how that are critical for Manufacturing.

Walter Jacobs is senior discipline engineer plant automation within the Competence Center Manufacturing at the Geleen site of SABIC-Europe. This department develops and implements best practices and systems to optimize manufacturing work processes.Walter is 49 years old and holds an academic degree in agricultural engineering. Before SABIC he was with Shell and DSM where he held various positions within R&D, engineering and manufacturing in the areas of process control, process optimization, asset information management and plant automation systems. In the last years, Walter was project manager for the design and implementation of a new asset data warehouse to manage all technical data and documents for the plants on the production site in Geleen. This system now serves as a central repository that stores and discloses the technical documents needed by engineering, operations and maintenance.
