Join Us for Workshop Series 2: Data Cleansing of Engineering and supplier data, starting 24 June 2025!
Dear interested experts in the field of IM applied in Large Capital Facility Projects,
We are excited to announce the second series of our four workshops on Information Management for Large Capital Facilities (IM-LCF). Following the completion of Workshop Series 1, where we had a deep dive into the fundamentals of creating a Common Data Environment (CDE) in a project, using ISO 15926-11, we are now ready to do a deep dive into: Data Cleansing of Engineering and supplier data.
Why Attend Workshop Series 2?
In IM in Large Capital Facility Projects, it is essential to create data that is unique, correct, consistent and fully integrated across all engineering disciplines. This is a difficult and complex task that required many man-hours and financial resources.
In series 1 of this project, we learned how this can be facilitated significantly by using a common data environment and how that can be created by using ISO15926-11.
In this series 2, we will now focus on the essential process of cleaning raw engineering discipline data and supplier data to ensure it is ready for integration into the CDE.
Again, the lessons learnt by Leo Van Ruijven when building the IM models for the Pallas project and in earlier Large Capital Facility Projects, are used as reference. The participants in the workshops of series 2 will bring in the lessons learnt from their projects.
The consolidated lessons learnt will be made available in a paper that will be published by USPI.
Key Topics Covered:
- Data Cleansing and mapping: How to transform raw engineering and supplier data into the CDE using ISO 8000, how to handle ‘manually’ errors, missing data, inconsistent models etc.
- Case Studies from participants: Their lessons learnt by improving the quality of raw engineering and supplier data.
- Role of AI in Data Cleansing: Explore how AI can automate and enhance the data cleansing and mapping process, including detecting inconsistencies, identifying duplicates, and filling in missing values.
- Digital Thread: How the digital thread is created and used to track and record all the steps and changes made to the plant database. This should support resolving errors, identifying next improvements and fulfilling the requirements of reporting to regulatory bodies. The assumption in this project is that using the digital thread is much more realistic than targeting a digital twin.
- Acceptance of final data set: How to achieve acceptance of the final data, transitioned into the CDE, by the engineering disciplines and by the suppliers
Lessons Learnt:
We note the series 2 will address the lessons learnt in cleansing of data in the reference case of the Pallas Project and earlier projects and of the projects of the participating companies. This should warrant a complete insight into the barriers and obstacles companies may encounter when doing this exercise in their projects.
To benefit from participation to the project and effectively contribute to the workshop discussions, it is assumed participants will have reasonable understanding of data modeling in IM for large capital facilities projects. For example:
- Data Cleaning & Integration Process: Techniques for ensuring referential integrity, classification of individuals, and maintaining unambiguous, human-readable content.
- Semantic Modelling: Using project ontology and Reference Data Libraries (RDL) to manage changes, deprecations, and additions.
- Breakdown Structures: Understanding various breakdown structures (e.g., Geographical, Requirement, System & Product) as the basis for creating a Digital Thread.
Who Should Attend?
The workshop series is focused on the process Industry supply chain consisting of Owner Operators, Contractors, Suppliers, Software services and Consultancies. Typical job holders would be:
- Information Management Professionals
- Engineers and Data Analysts
- Project Managers
